We are in the Aseret Yemei Teshuva, the Ten Days of Repentance, when we are reminded of the power of teshuvah, tefillah, and tzedakah — repentance, prayer, and charity.

This year, that message feels especially close to home.

Since we opened the doors of our new Middle School, our students have been davening every morning, saying Selichot, and learning together in the new Beit Midrash and Beit Knesset, a space this community came together to build for them.

As we've built this space, so many of its pieces have already been generously dedicated by families in our community. Now, as we approach Yom Kippur, there is one final piece waiting to be dedicated: the mezuzah on its entrance, the very doorway our children walk through each morning.

The mitzvah of mezuzah comes from the words u'chtavtam al mezuzot beitecha u'vi'she'arecha: "write them on the doorposts of your house and your gates." At this time of year, when we speak about the she'arei shamayim, the gates of heaven, being open before Yom Kippur, the connection feels especially meaningful.

So we are asking our community to come together to raise $118,000 before Yom Kippur to dedicate the mezuzah of our Beit Midrash and Beit Knesset.

This is more than a doorway. It is the entrance to a space where our children will daven, learn, celebrate, and grow together for years to come.
