3D Printing

Come join tech master David Merel for a journey through 3D printing in WTAs own STEAM lab. Continue to explore the world of 3d printing through the use of TinkerCAD. This semester the 3d printing chug will take 3D printing to the next level by bringing our 3D printed objects to life. We will start off by learning and reviewing the basics through the creation and printing of a personalized funko pop and some magical objects. Then we will move beyond just the printer by exploring fun, 3D printed movable objects that can be assembled with motors, gears, LEDs, solar panels, and more. The culmination of the semester will be 3D printing drone frames and assembling the drones with motors and remote controls and then taking them outside to watch them fly. At the end of the semester, each student will leave the chug with all the prints that they made and a deeper understanding of the way that 3D printing can be used in all areas of life.

Create Games with Scratch - Design and program video games using Scratch! Scratch is a programming language built by MIT that is specifically designed to make programming fun and easy. Students will start with the hour of code and then build several fundamental games to learn the ins and outs of how to program with Scratch. By the end of the class, students will have originally designed video games to share with friends and family!

Start Coding with Python -

Create interactive text adventure games, quizzes, and more with Python. Python is an ideal starter language because it is easy to write, easy to read, and is used in the real world. In fact, the entire back-end of YouTube is written in Python! Students will start with simple projects to develop familiarity with the language. Next they will move onto creating interactive text-based games and even drawing with code!

Lego Robotics and Engineering -

See your children grow and shine through an introductory robotics and coding course from LEGO. Students will take their background knowledge of STEM and put it into practice as they work in teams to design and build robots using Lego robotics kits. They will use their STEM skills combined with critical thinking to work as a team to build robots and compete in exciting, mission-based games. Along with building, children will also practice their coding skills as they program their robots to accomplish practical goals. Students will apply themselves in engaging activities and missions while gaining productive learning habits, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.

Moveable Machines -

Students will learn about the fundamental principles of motion and energy by creating their own machines! Through fun explorations and projects, students will be able to identify and create the parts of different simple and compound machines. They will be challenged to create machines that generate power and motion with no electricity and will hone their engineering skills by testing and remodeling their creations. By the end of class, students will be able to construct cars, gliders, and more and will understand why and how they move. Students will come out of class excited to continue engineering and creating!
